How to plan competition day: a practical schedule

The day you have been waiting for, planned step by step.

Competition day brings excitement, joy and unnecessary stress. A clear schedule is the best way to reduce nerves.

Start with your estimated stage time and work backwards. Some federations publish category times, while others provide only blocks, so always treat the schedule as approximate.

Your first fixed task is the report for your coach. It determines what to eat and what to pack for backstage.

Option 1: you prepare independently

Arrive backstage at least one hour before your category. Allow an hour each for makeup, hair and tan, plus an hour for the coach report, meals, packing and travel. For a 14:00 stage time, begin at about 09:00.

Option 2: you use professional services

Your schedule depends on the times offered by the makeup artist, hair stylist and tanning team. Keep a live view of the competition, monitor delays and remain ready to leave at any moment.

Neither option is universally better. Backstage may be loud, crowded, hot or cold; a hotel is calmer, but you must monitor the event carefully. Choose the plan that keeps you calm and on time.
